APPOINTMENTS TO COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCILS

Would you like to make a positive difference to health services and to people’s
lives?

The Welsh Government is seeking to appoint further volunteer members to all
Community Health Councils (CHCs) across Wales and in most local committees
which are based on local authority areas.

CHCs are the
public’s independent ‘watchdog’ in the National Health Service in Wales. They
represent the public interest and play an important role in influencing the way
that health services are planned, delivered and improved.

CHC members are volunteers and their role is to act as the eyes
and ears of patients and the public, listening to their concerns and working
with the health service to improve the quality of patient care.

We are
looking for people from all walks of life – the most important requirement is a
genuine interest in improving health services for your community.  Some key skills which would be useful
include: an interest in and understanding of local health issues; being able to
work in a team and with a diverse range of people; and an ability to listen to
others and exchange views.

The music of Black America in the nineteen sixties and nineteen seventies.

This year’s BHM Lecture in Newport will be given by His Honour Judge Nicholas Cooke QC, the senior criminal judge in South East Wales. His talk, on a subject close to his heart, will be accompanied by plenty of the music discussed. It will explain the context, development and variety of Black American music of the period and detail how it was copied, exploited but also ignored in the UK at the time and subsequently. It will also describe how, notwithstanding that treatment the music concerned was phenomenally well received as a part of white working class popular culture and remains hugely popular to this day.

Dolman Theatre, Newport; 6.45 for 7pm, Oct 7th (This is a free event, but for more details please contact roy.grant@sewrec.org.ukor 01633 250 006)
